Rihanna sues ex-accountants, says she lost millions

Friday 06 July 2012
American Pop star Rihanna has sued her former accountants for mismanaging the singer's finances, including claiming they earned huge commissions from concert tours that resulted in her losing millions of dollars.
In a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court that surfaced on Thursday, the 24-year-old singer and her tour company, Tourihanna, is seeking an unspecified amount of compensatory damages and loss of earnings from accountancy firm Berdon LLP and former employees Michael Mitnick and Peter Gounis.
The suit, first filed late in Tuesday ahead of the July 4 U.S. holiday, claims the accounting firm caused "significant financial losses" between 2005 and 2010 by charging "exorbitant" commissions from Rihanna's 2010 "Last Girl on Earth Tour." It also accuses Berdon of mishandling Rihanna's foreign and domestic taxes and failing to monitor unpaid song royalties.
"Between 2005 and 2010, Tourihanna suffered significant losses due to defendants' financial mismanagement and other acts and omissions," the lawsuit said.
Ron Storch, a partner at Berdon, said the company could not comment on pending litigation. Mitnick and Gounis have since left the firm and could not be reached for comment.
Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Fenty, has produced a string of worldwide hits including "Umbrella" and "We Found Love." She is referred to in the suit as a financial novice who found fame at a young age and relied heavily on her accountants.
Her music management introduced her to Berdon in 2005 when she was a 16-year-old and "a minor with a booming music career and no knowledge or understanding of financial matters whatsoever."
The lawsuit said the accountants concealed facts regarding her finances and, in a deal Rihanna's lawyers called unusual, earned commissions based on a percentage of Rihanna's gross receipts that were "exorbitant and expensive."
In addition, the firm assumed control over the singer's affairs beyond the industry standard and failed to maximize her personal net worth and long term wealth, the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit said several of the Barbados-born singer's national and international tours between 2005 and 2010 suffered losses compared with her last tour, "Loud", that was a financial success after she parted ways with Berdon.
The lawsuit said Rihanna lost millions of dollars during "The Last Girl On Earth" tour after the firm failed to reconcile costs versus revenues while still paying itself millions in fees.
It estimated that between 2007 and 2010, the accountants earned millions in commissions on tour gross receipts in an amount equaling 23 percent of total tour income, compared with 6 percent for Rihanna.
The firm did not do monthly planning reports and performed little record-keeping of Rihanna's personal and business expenses, including those for Tourihanna. For example, during 2008 and 2009, the accountants kept only 2 percent to 4 percent of all receipts for expenses charged on the singer's personal credit card, the suit said.
It also failed to uncover millions in unpaid royalties and problems with the way in which Universal Music Group (UMG) label Recordings was tracking song royalties. The suit did not mention Rihanna's direct label, Def Jam, also owned by UMG.
Accountants mishandled foreign and domestic taxes by withholding more funds than necessary, leading to "a significant losses of tax benefits" and failed to file taxes on time, causing late penalties.
The singer further claims that, as a result, the IRS is now auditing her because Berdon mishandled tax returns between 2008 and 2010. The suit includes claims of breach of contract, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and unjust enrichment.

Could it be That Prezzo is an Ungrateful Fellow ‘I didn’t ask you to save me’, Prezzo tells Goldie

June 26, 2012
Goldie and Prezzo
Big Brother Stargame ‘Lovebirds’ Goldie and Prezzo had another big fight on Monday, June 25, 2012, and we all saw this one coming.
Barely a day after Goldie announced that she had saved him from eviction, Prezzo has made it clear to her that he actually didn’t need her to.
After a minor argument, the on-off couple tore each other apart, and Prezzo didn’t mince his words as he told the Nigerian exactly where to get off.
You are a quitter, you are a runner, run away like you always do’ Prezzo told Goldie, who tried to defend her actions.
Look beyond the action to the intention’ Goldie pleaded.
Could it really be over between the two?

Spice Girls in raucous reunion to promote musicals.

The Spice Girls reunited for a few hours on Tuesday to launch a new musical based on songs that made them one of the biggest bands of the 1990s, but there was time for plenty of laughs, avowals of mutual love and even the odd catty aside.
"Viva Forever!", written by British comedian Jennifer Saunders and produced by "Mamma Mia!" mastermind Judy Craymer, opens at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End on December 11.
Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell -- or to use their more familiar monikers Posh, Scary, Baby, Sporty and Ginger Spice -- were back together 12 years after they split and seven years since their reunion tour.
Any appearance by all five Spice Girls is a major media event in Britain, where they introduced the concept of "girl power" and were hailed as modern-day feminists by some and "sugar-pop" pin-up girls by others.
Tabloids delighted in unearthing behind-the-scenes tensions and tantrums between the members when they were a major force in pop, but, for the most part, Tuesday's appearance was harmonious.
"I don't think it took (us) any convincing at all," Chisholm told a small group of reporters who met the band members before they appeared on stage to present the musical.
"It's something we've spoken about a lot over the years. I think that our music lends itself really well to theatre and when we reunited in 2007 that was when we started to talk about it more seriously."
Beckham, in a black outfit made by her own fashion brand, added: "We always said if we do this we want to work with the best people, because that's what we've always done. Everything we've done we've done properly and we've got the 'A-team.'"
HANDS OFF APPROACH
The Spice Girls' level of involvement in the musical was not fully clear, although they were consulted on the storyline and have seen early workshops.
"As much as we've written the songs, we also didn't want to creatively stifle Judy and Jennifer," Beckham said.
"So, somewhat, we have let them do what they do. Their success speaks for themselves. We really gave them the freedom to do their thing. We had a lot of faith in them."
Beckham, who has remained in the limelight since the band went into hiatus in 2000 due to her success as a designer and style icon and marriage to soccer star David Beckham, hoped Viva Forever! would bring girl power to a new audience.
"We talked about girl power for a long long time and we're hoping to introduce a whole new generation. What we do individually as well is empower women and it's fun - we want to have fun and we're excited."
Viva Forever! is not a re-telling of the Spice Girls' meteoric rise to global fame after they formed in 1994 having answered an advertisement to form a girl band.
While it does feature their hits, which include "Wannabe", "Spice Up Your Life" and "Viva Forever", it centers around four characters who audition for a TV talent show.
"It's not about actually us, it's the essence of the Spice Girls," said Halliwell, who, like the other four Spice Girls, is a mother in her late 30s.
"There is a talent show in there, but actually, really what it's about is about friendship, it's about motherhood and then there is a little bit of how do you juggle between success and friendship?"
Asked about how they had got along since coming together to promote and work on the musical, Halliwell replied: "We actually do have quite a good time together when it's just us lot."
Dinner was out of the question, however, as Beckham was leaving on a flight soon after the promotion.
Brown bantered with reporters, calling their questions "crap" and asking why no one had asked why they all looked so good. She also stated on stage that at the musical workshops the performers "sing it better than us."
"Well, that's not hard," Chisholm replied to loud laughter.
Chisholm also interrupted Halliwell as she praised the other Spice Girls, referring jokingly to "Ginger Spice's" shock 1998 exit from the group amid reports of a bust up.
"She's only saying that because she left."

Kim Kardashian Seem 'Horrified' With Kanye West Over Porn Music Videos

Kim Kardashian reportedly had a "meltdown" with boyfriend Kanye West after learning of his plans to create pornographic music videos.
The 31-year-old reality star notoriously rose to fame in 2007 when a sex tape she made with ex-boyfriend Ray J leaked online. Kim has struggled to leave the humiliation behind her, so it's no surprise that she was furious when she learned Kanye is planning on filming x-rated music videos.
"Kanye wants to bring out some super-sexy versions of his future music videos for his older fans and has already met with a big pornography company," an insider told the Daily Star.
"Kim is horrified that they will verge on porn and had a meltdown when she heard what he was planning. She wants to distance herself from her past sex tape shame and thinks this will bring it all up again."
Apparently, Kim is trying to "put a block" on the plans as she doesn't want to receive further backlash following her divorce from Kris Humphries.
"She has already experienced a big public backlash over her ex-husband Kris Humphries so the last thing she wants to go through is another huge scandal,"
